Now that Spring has finally set in permanently we've been using our sunroom | playroom all the time again! I'd call this a three season room. The space is nestled under a large old magnolia but still gets lots of indirect sunlight, it's really only unusable during the snowy part of winter. And that's because we're just not willing to pay to keep it heated enough.
We've left a lot of the toys that we moved into the family room for the winter because it's next to the kitchen and realistically they want to be near me. I can't say this room will ever be finished because our needs are always changing. It's such a bright and relaxing space and I'm happy to let it evolve with each new season.
Last fall when I gave this room a makeover, the toys were the main attraction and I wanted everything else to stay really neutral. Now that it's taking shape as a sunroom again, I realized it was time to add in some layers of color. I kept the previous layout the same with the conversation zone in the front right when you step in the room and the kids area in the back by the back door. I'll have to show you that in another post.
Because this is still a main playing space for a two and three year old, and there is direct access to our backyard, I knew indoor/outdoor durability was imperative. The biggest change was laying down this striped rug. I loved the look of our previous sisal but I stole that for the family room a few months ago so the slate floor needed something. I plan to get another sisal and layer the striped rug right on top. I also added a solid and a striped indoor/outdoor pillow that could make their way from the sofa down the floor easily. Lately we've been using them solely as floor cushions tucked up under the bench/coffee table to read books or play spot it. I really need to give that bench a good makeover but that will have to wait for another day too. I hate the gold. I'd like to add a cushion to the top as well.
