Valentine's Day Decoration - Wood Bead Hearts

Valentine's Day is a holiday that I think many people don't typically decorate for, but it's still a special day nonetheless, and so I wanted to create something simple to add to our home to help celebrate this Sweet holiday.

I made these Wood Bead Hearts and hung them up in our entryway to instantly add a little extra LOVE into our home.

And to help spread the Love,  I have joined a lovely group of 28 bloggers whom have all come up with some thoughtful handmade Valentine's day ideas to share with You. You'll find crafts, recipes, free printables, and so much more! All of the information can be found at the end of this post. A big hug to Jennifer at Town and Country Living for putting together this Heartfelt and Homemade blog hop and for inviting me to join in on the fun.

I came up with the idea to make these hearts because I had some red wood beads on hand that I just  knew would be perfect for some kind of Valentine's craft. The red beads are actually from a broken Christmas garland that I was about to toss out, so I'm glad I was able to find a way to reuse them.

If you don't happen to have a broken wood bead Christmas garland on hand, these hearts can be made with any other beads, but I think the wood beads are super adorable. You will also need a wire hanger and some pliers.

I had some red wire hangers lying around and so I thought that they would be perfect for this craft.... But I found out later that they were a super big pain in the butt, more on that in a bit.

So the first step is to untwist the wire at the top of the hanger. Next, you will add the beads. Shape the wire into a heart, and lastly, twist the wire back together to hold in all in place. So easy! I doubt that I even needed to explain myself, right?

But here is the part that you need to know. If you look closely at the hearts below you will see that I used a different type of wire hanger for each one.

And here is why; This red wire hanger, the one that  I said was a pain in the butt, well it definitely was that! It was SO difficult to untwist. I still have blood blisters on my thumbs because it was so much work.

For my second heart, I used your typical brown wire hanger and it did work a little better, but it still was pretty tricky.  So for my third heart, I used a wire hanger that had a white plastic casing on it, and this hanger worked SO much better. I was able to untwist it without much hassle at all. So if you decide you would like to make some of these bead hearts, Please do yourself a favor and find wire hangers with the plastic casing like this:

Also in our entryway, I used a dry erase maker to write XOX onto an old window frame. This is another simple idea to add Valentine's Charm into your home. Don't have an old window frame? Try it out on a regular window, or a picture frame.

I hope that you like my simple Valentine's day decorations. You'll have to let me know if you plan on making some wood bead hearts too.

XOXO,

Emily
