Style for Little Girls: Doesn't have to cost a fortune

I'm spotlighting one of my favorite spots to buy clothes for Wells and Tagg: Old Navy.  It all started with a cute picture a friend posted yesterday of her adorable little girl getting ready for pre-school.

Full disclosure, this friend is my southern Sorority Sister from College of Charleston and her daughter had on skinny jeans and a peplum top.  I die.

Anyway, the conversation bounced around between the adorableness of little F and her wardrobe.  Both the cost and the practicality and how these things are different in various regions of the country. It was noted that Southern women tend to dress their children up more for preschool.  I'm not going to deny that because my news feed is typically full of little children in smocked outfits off on their way to the park and to school.  I'm not going to argue about that.  We do it some.  But to be honest, I'm amazed at how well some of our Lily shifts and shorter smocked dressed stay wrinkle free and hide stains better than the official playclothes.  I don't think most of us have the luxury of a separate set of "play clothes" for our kids.  They play in anything we put them in.  Even their jamma clothes. (As pajamas are called in our house).  So it's just all about getting them dressed.  And I find a lot of fun in that while Wells is still young enough to let me dress her.

So the discussion wasn't really about dresses v. pants for climbing a tree.  It was focused on style.  And affording or not affording style.  I say you can dress your children stylishly and practically at the same time.  It all goes in the same washing machine.

I name the bluff on any mother who disagrees.

I'm not asking you to find me clothes that are outrageously over my budget and are dry-clean only to prove me wrong.  I just want to show you affordable options that prove me right in the hopes that you can bump up  your kids style if you want.  IF YOU WANT.  That's right.  I'm not calling out a single mom for not dressing her kids cuter.  Lord knows, you can have a closet full of stylish and ironed options and they'll choose pajama shorts and a dirty tee shirt from yesterday every time.  And the one time you give in because it's not worth the fight is the time you will see at least three people you know at target.  So I get it.  Please don't feel like I'm judging.  I swear to you I'm not.  But I did spend an hour browsing the OLD NAVY site in search of stylish and cute girls clothes to see if you could play mini-fashionista on a budget and I loved what I saw.  The style and the prices.
