jb here, posting on Kitchen and Residential Design. Yeah – I will admit it; I don’t know how it happened either. I certainly have very little formal design knowledge, and . . . I am pretty certain, too, that I am not as well traveled or as well versed as our host, Paul. But here we are, and I am, again . . . freewriting.
For the ones of you who do no longer understand me, I am inside the early tiers of launching a commercial enterprise. My commercial enterprise objectives what I see as a void presently discovered within the home improvement marketplace. I carry this up less to sway you any which manner, however more, rather, to steer you into what I am approximately to mention.
While I have thrown my hat in, I actually have also selected to accomplish that in a slightly unique manner. Some homeowners do layout and construct; others recognition on upkeep and restore. All exist inside a market that is often divided: do-it-yourself or do-it-for-me, and to which caterers do I provide my patronage?
In searching, I spent a while at the phrase ? ?Domestic development.? It means, and I assume we realize it to indicate, any organization that effectively improvements, fixes or in any other case improves a residence. The act of doing and carried out. ?Home improvement? As a discrete word, however, can also exist, too, not handiest because the excessive degree descriptive, but also as a sub-set of itself.
OK . . . I know that there are slight nuisances associated with each of those sub-sets of activity. In terms of a business you may call, for example, you may expect a “home improvement” company to offer a wide and blurry array of home services. With these organizations, too, you may expect a limited amount of design service and/or only a few aesthetically-oriented questions.
The phrase ?Home improvement,? You spot, has been utilized by many. And over years, some have claimed it and used it for good. Others, though, have helped to cultivate a feel, including meanings, of maliciousness and mistrust; no? Be it the tonic salesmen with their overpriced door-to-door pitching of wares, or the hypnotists who have taken on clients only to depart them ultimately in a daze.
From that, I often prevented the phrase as if it were a 4-letter word. But I actually have come round and I have come to use it, every so often, greater as a depend of conference. Still I do no longer connect it to my business, mainly.
I feel in a few manner that I should make an apology no longer best for writing some those phrases above, but additionally for any negative meanings that I myself may also one day add. They are, in the end, handiest innocent little phrases, natural and attractive.
Heavy on the one, they say – Home is the focal point of life, and I am not talking only of those things attached to the house. Think about it – is there any other place you spend more time; is there any other place that you know so well, or care so much about?
And possibly as a phrase today, home development, more so than rehabbing or designing and constructing, surely offers an possibility to take returned a bit some thing for ourselves and others. Am I so bold, but, to do that on my own; no!
Or could I maybe just modify it to fit my needs, instead, calling it something like -- life improvement? A new business sub-set, no; no, I can't. After all, I do fear a steep fall into the pit of either misrepresentation or, worse, of self-help freakdom.
I go rather, at least in advertising and marketing cloth, with ?Home Project Services? Or ?Home Project Support.? These phrases are meant to denote non-fashionable, and particularly non-descript, creation services. Not layout, per se, and nevertheless I marvel what I am trying to mention.
Now . . . Did this little tangent accomplish some thing for every body? I don?T know; every so often, these things are hit or leave out. But I do recognize you could be aware me right here and there, trying to find the words that say, ?My enterprise (and greater must follow) can also surely be less about domestic improvement, and extra approximately assisting human beings locate the way to improve their most crucial asset ? Themselves.?
