living room update
So y'all know I'm pretty big into the before and afters and not the in betweens so posts like this one are hard for me to do.
I feel like I owe an explanation for everything and a lot of "don't worry, I know that's off, we'll fix it soons".
But y'all have been asking for some sneak peaks and I feel bad holding out.
So hear goes...
Of course, I forgot to take any real "before" pictures.
Oops.
And you do realize that when I say "we" in this post and any and all home improvement related posts I really mean "my sweet husband all by himself while I watch and dictate".
I had every intention of snapping a before picture of the room but Matthew was sweet enough to finish painting the entire room while Wells and I were out for the day and the yellow was pretty much all gone when we came home.
Here's a recap for those of y'all that skip over long paragraphs:
The walls were yellow.
We want them gray.
You get the point.
We started with two swatches of paint.
Antique Sterling by Glidden
Himalayan Trek by Benjamin Moore
I decided to add some of my things to help choose between the two.
We fixed a small patch in the wall
Check.
Began building frames for the built-ins that will flank the fireplace on both sides.
Painted the back walls Tidewater by Sherwin Williams
PS-NOT to be confused with TIDEWATER BLUE
We began building shelves in custom pattern to add a little somethin' somethin' more than typical uniform shelves.
FYI, we didn't paint the bottom two rows because those will actually be hidden by cabinet doors.
Those will be white.
Trimmed out one side and ready for the next side.
The back of the shelves on the right side look gray like the walls.
Speaking of walls, we went with Antique Sterling by Glidden.
We used this color in our entryway and kitchen at our house in Pawleys and I just loved the way it worked with the Tidewater by Sherwin Williams.
{See more about that here, here,here, and here}
I know, it doesn't scream contrast.
It's partly the photo (I was holding BabyGirl while taking these pictures and she was really interested in helping) and partly the lighting. It looks a little more blue in person but not quite as blue as the left side.
That's okay.
I was going for subtle.

I seriously can't believe I'm showing y'all pictures of the current chaos that is our living room. Thankfully my sweet husband pushes the chairs back into place and puts away the shop vac and ladder each night when he's cleaning up.

I know some of y'all might be a little disappointed that I'm just re-creating my old house.
I promise this isn't the case.
I'm just sticking with what I know and love and adding some fun updated accessories.
I'll be honest, I can't afford to completely start from scratch.
But rugs, pillows, window treatments, and lighting will be completely different.
And some things you might recognize from other rooms will find their way to the shelves in here I'm sure.
