Cheap fixes: fast, fat shelves

I love the appearance of what is usually referred to as a chunky shelf, but the costs charged for maximum of them border on the crook. Here's a reasonably-priced do-it-yourself challenge I located on Reader's Digest's internet site of all places. All you need is a few primary tools, more than one hours and an appreciation for reasonably-priced fixes that don't appearance reasonably-priced.

1. Pick up an 18" or 24" huge hole middle door or .

2. Mark the studs at the wall where you want your shelf to head.

Three. Using both a table noticed or a round saw (use a fence or a few type of straight part if you're going the round saw path), and cut the door in half.

Four. Hollow center doorways are definitely now not hollow. They have a corrugated cardboard center. Take a timber chisel (or a steak knife) and eliminate the corrugated cardboard middle.

Five. Measure the internal size of the thickness of the door. Round the range down to the closest eighth inch.

6. Cut a 2x4 to the thickness of the inner size of the door's hole core. This 2x4 is the cleat so as to hold up your shelf and make it seem to flow.

7. Draw a directly line throughout the studs you've already marked on the wall. This straight line can be the line in which you place the bottom of the cleat.

Eight. Screw or bolt the cleat to the studs via the wall.
