Currently Obsessed: Breakfast nook

I'm completely smitten with the idea of a little breakfast nook.  It's the perfect spot to drink coffee and read blogs on the iPad.  Or the newspaper if I was in to that.  I love that it's such a casual Sunday morning kind of space as opposed to the more formal Saturday night dining room.  It feels grown up and masculine but down to earth enough to let my kids sit there too.  A settee and pedestal table are a must.

Do you have a little a little breakfast nook?  Do you use it every day for meals or does it become just another pile up for bags and mail?  I'm completely obsessed with this first image and plan to make it work in my next house.

I'm obsessed with this tulip table and West Elm Settee in charcoal velvet.  Honestly, I'd probably go with the look for less ikea docksta table so I don't cringe when my babes draw with crayon all over it.  I'm typically drawn to lighter rugs but I think a dark rug is a must for hiding the inevitable spills in an eating area.  I like the wooden salad bowl matched up against the funky gold metal flatware.  I love the hexagon shape of both the pendant light and the mercury glass candle holder.  Although light fixtures can add such drama to a space it's always the last thing I add in because of the cost.
