A little less talk and a lot more action

A little less communicate and loads more movement.

I mentioned in a previous post that I've been obsessed with podcasts lately.  I can't get enough.  It physically forces me to tune out the noise in my head and around me and just listen.  I'm talking about the constant loop of thoughts that many of us have trouble turning off.  Ever.  Podcasts help me retrain my Mom Brain to focus better.  Plus they're fun, portable, and I'm learning a lot of cool stuff.

Stuff Mom Never Told You, The Anxiety Guru, and The Life Coach School with Brooke Castillo are my current favorites.  I would add Serial by This American Life but I thought season two was about as #wompwomp as season one was exhilarating.  We can chat more about that later.  I would love to hear your thoughts on Adnan.

Massive Action not Passive Action.  Brooke Castillo talks about this distinction and it really really really hit home for me.  So much so that I wrote it down and taped it to my bathroom mirror as a daily reminder.  I like passive action. I like to spend hours on pinterest, scrolling through instagram, listening to podcasts (ironic, right), reading blogs, reading articles on real estate, looking at listings, finding photoshop and illustrator tutorials on you tube, binge watching netflix, reading books, etc.  I like to make lists and plan and dream.

You know where I get stuck?  Massive Action.  You know, actually creating something.  Painting in my new art studio instead of sitting inside pinning images of beautiful art studios.  Scrolling through instagram instead of posting a photo on instagram.  Making mock-up business cards and logos in photoshop instead of actually turning in my real estate paperwork to DPOR and making my license official.  Looking at someone else's writing or blog post instead of writing my own.  Now, these may all be examples that you can't directly relate to.  Not everyone needs to write or blog or paint or sell real estate.  But I'm guessing you can fill in the blanks with your own life.  Okay, full disclosure.  My biggest one is probably pinning articles and pictures of organized homes instead of actually getting off my butt and organizing my home.  Please tell me I'm not alone in that one.

So my new daily goal is to create something.  Even if it's just one thing.  Even if it sucks.  Even if it's not well received.  My goal is not to please everyone but rather to be pleased with myself for trying.  For doing.  A life well-lived.  Today I created this blog post.  Tomorrow my plan is to order new stationery.  Thursday I plan to make a recipe I pinned.  Not everything has to change your life. Mostly it's the small things that add up to you living your life and not just sitting on the sidelines.  Anyone else feel a reference to the best movie of all time coming on?  Wait for it...

Iris, in the movies we have leading ladies and we have the best friend.  You, I can tell, are a leading lady, but for some reason you are behaving like the best friend.

You're so right.  You're supposed to be the leading lady of your own life, for god's sake! Arthur, I've been going to a therapist for three years, and she's never explained anything to me that well.
