It's not all boatdrinks at the beach
So for those of you who think we've just been sitting round drinking fruity liquids with the aid of the pool, nicely, you're partially proper. My own family changed into right here all final week and we had an top notch and plenty needed destroy from domestic renovation. I loved plenty of strawberry daiquiris at the cabana bar at South Litchfield and plenty of Coronas and glasses of wine at home. I even allow my husband off the hook for the week as well. I figured convincing him to help me host my circle of relatives at our house for five days earned him sufficient correct husband factors!
Before my circle of relatives got here to go to, he was able to go several projects of his honey-do list. The first was getting commenced at the renovations in his *workplace/den.
*The space previously known as my husband's office has now officially been changed to the den in order for it to feel a bit more like a room that I can use too!
Updates in the den:
Tear out out current and awkwardly positioned closets
Remove unnecessary brass and glass (classy) cabinets from lower back wall
Invite buddies and circle of relatives over to rip out carpet and set up ply wooden sub ground
Hire a crew of *pantry thieves to install hardwood flooring.
Begin a huge scale built-in bookshelf/cupboard task to house our newly received and regular developing series of books.
Find a domestic for the adopted dinosaur of a table that got here with the house. They left be behind the desk but no longer the gnome. Seriously, I might have instead taken the gnome.
Here are a few before and for the duration of snap shots to maintain you happy until we give you an after.
A wise uncle of my husband's recently said that sometimes you have to take a step back to move a step forward. Very prophetic. I think he was talking about careers, relationships and life, but it clearly applies to our den renovation as well. Luckily I knew from our little half bath project back in May that sometimes even the most awful demolition mess cleans up nicely and is worth it in the end.We nailed down pieces of plywood for the sub flooring to cover the whole room. The desk you see is original to the home. We didn't ask for it but I think it was just too big to fit through the door. It's not my favorite but will do for now. Our gorgeous oak floors were laid down board by board. You can see there is layer of paper that is placed on top of the sub floor directly underneath the hardwood. It's #15 tar paper used as a moisture barrier.
After getting rid of the awkward closets and present shelving unit within the lower back nook of the den, we had an entire lot of viable space brought to the room. Matthew determined it changed into the proper spot to construct constructed in bookshelves with some leftover pecky cypress wooden he'd been saving. I'm now not certain if the lowest is going to be bookshelves or cabinets? What do y'all assume? I'm a HUGE fan of storage that stays at the back of closed doorways. Some matters are necessary however appearance cluttered irrespective of how cute the basket is which you place it in. A cupboard might be a brilliant place to hide electrical cords or batteries or workplace resources and such. I'd want to maintain the shelves a litter loose area to spotlight artwork, photos and books. I'm quite sure I can convince the builder to get on board with this!
Things we still want to finish:
Decorate (this is virtually the handiest step that I'll be actively taking part in)!
Don't worry, extra to come!
Acquire furniture (Notice I failed to say buy new fixtures. That's due to the fact we're greater than satisfied to simply accept your used fixtures donations considering that there may be no finances to buy something new)
Build paneling at the partitions (like within the residing room and eating room)
Add baseboards
Finish the built-ins
Choose a paint coloration for the walls (and paint them, duh)
Enough of that, it is time to say good-bye to the ones vain closets and ugly shelving!
I mean seriously, this become an OFFICE. A location to get work carried out. How on this planet did all and sundry ever get anything performed on this room? In the South, we're raised to continually say something effective, so right here goes: My goodness, how smart the previous owner ought to were to match so lots of her things into simply one room!
*Pantry Thieves: So you might bear in mind me complaining some weeks ago that the guys we employed to put in our hardwood flooring in the living room moved slower than out-of-state minivans traveling through Myrtle Beach at the Fourth of July weekend. Well, they might be gradual however they rock at installing flooring for a deal so we scheduled them to come again to complete up set up inside the den. It changed into handiest then that I realized the cause they labored so sluggish last time became because they had been hungry. I had no concept that on top of paying those employees we were expected to feed them as well. Luckily this cross round I had a freshly stocked pantry. I wish these boys loved their can of corn and cream of hen soup due to the fact they sure did assist themselves to it! Not exactly sure what they made with that, however something it become did wonders for his or her speed!
