New House Progress | Den
Continuing along with our room swap, I wanted to show you the den today. I hesitated sharing this space today because it's the least complete of the four rooms. The new den (located where our old dining room used to be) is already the most used the space in the house. Our home has a very traditional floor plan with a small kitchen. This doesn't leave any room for lounging or hanging out in the kitchen. So it's nice to have a little spot to sit right off the kitchen.
This room has the most of amount of design tweaking before Matthew or I will love it. But the footprint alone has won us over. Remember, his dream was to have a cozy little men's study and now he has one. We've moved the leather sofa in here along with all of our darker and more masculine furniture and art. Rounding it up into one space has let the pieces shine. They were a bit forced scattered in other rooms but now they feel cohesive and well placed. The bookshelves are new to this house, taken from our old house in Pawleys that we just sold. You can't really tell in the pictures, but there are two identical tower bookcases placed on either side of the leather sofa. Matthew wants to eventually turn them into built-ins and place to library lights facing in towards each other for more soft lighting.
Room color. We're bouncing around the idea of painting this room something bold. Like a dark and saturated navy blue. I think that would really help with the feel of the room. What do you think? Have you gone bold in your house? Would that totally kill the flow of our downstairs to have something so distinct right off the entry?
Fabrics. This is going to be a struggle. I get really overwhelmed with all the choices. Pillows and Window Panels are going to be the biggest decision we make in this room and will make the most impact. I need them to really help the space feel young. It's reading a bit older than Matthew or I would prefer right now and I think some well chosen fabrics could really help with that.
Again, these pictures are literally showing the before so we can all be in the same place mentally when I give updates and talk about choices. I just don't want anyone to think that these changes take place over night. Even when you're shopping your own house like we've done. It still takes a while to make each decision. If anyone has any ideas for pillows or wall colors, please let me know! I'm not a sewer so it's off to etsy I go to start my search!
